Planned engineering work

Network Rail needs to do engineering work to maintain and improve the rail network. Much of this work is done at weekends and during holiday periods, but some work also needs to be done overnight during the week.

Buses will replace train services where lines are closed for work to take place. We may also have to alter train services over a wider area.

Please use the calendar to the right and click on a date to get information about planned engineering work for that day.

Advance notice of major engineering work

Wimbledon area - late March to early May

Major engineering work will be taking place in the Wimbledon area on the following dates:

  • Saturday and Sunday 28 / 29 March
  • Saturday and Sunday 4 / 5 April
  • Easter Weekend 10 - 13 April
  • Sunday 19 April
  • Sunday 3 May

On these dates most of the Wimbledon station area will be closed. The only train services able to use Wimbledon station will be First Capital Connect and Tramlink services in and out of platforms 9 and 10.

South West Trains services will either be diverted via an alternative route or will start at stations away from London Waterloo. London Underground's "District Line" service will not run between Wimbledon and Wimbledon Park.

Replacement buses will run for local journeys, but where possible passengers should plan to travel by alternative routes or use other stations nearby.

Help with planning your journey

Travelling late evening or early morning?

If you intend travelling after 23:00 or before 05:30 please check train times here to confirm your journey, as engineering works that affect these services may not be indicated on these summaries.

We are sorry that cycles, prams and items of bulky luggage cannot be carried on buses or taxis provided to replace train services during engineering work.
