Esher station has been awarded Secure Station status and Ian Taylor MP will be on hand to present the award to staff.
Working in partnership with the British Transport Police, we had to ensure that the station passed rigorous analysis set down by the Department for Transport. This brings the number of our stations that have been accredited under this scheme to a total of 65.
Ian Taylor MP said:
"The need to feel secure is one of the biggest concerns raised by constituents who travel by rail. Full credit to South West Trains’ staff for their excellent effort to ensure higher security standards at Esher station."
Stuart Giddings, our Head of Security & Crime Prevention said:
“We are delighted with this accreditation. It is fantastic recognition of the hard work that is going in to reducing crime and deterring vandalism. It will provide reassurance to passengers that pass through the station each day that we are continuing to work hard to meet and exceed national security standards”
The Secure Station scheme was launched in 1998 to encourage stations to improve security for both passengers and staff. we recently invested £1.8million in a team of Rail Community Officers (RCOs) who will patrol stations and trains across the network – providing a safer railway.
