To celebrate National Customer Service Week (6-12 October), South West Trains asked its passengers to pick up a form and nominate a member of staff who they felt represented the real crème de la crème of customer service.
More than 1,600 forms came flooding in from passengers who were overwhelmed by the service they received and wanted to let us know who had gone the extra mile for them.
While the overall winner will be announced in mid-October, the judges have already managed to narrow the nominations down to just 11 finalists, revealing some of our top customer service stars from right across the South West Trains network.
Our 11 finalists are:
- Steve Clark, Bournemouth-based guard
- John Blackburn, Bournemouth-based Revenue Protection Inspector
- April Gunn, Southampton Central station
- John Keys, Hinchley Wood station
- Vernon Brown, Feltham station
- Taiwo Oladipo, London Waterloo station
- Babubhai Patel, Motspur Park station
- Alan Hopgood, Teddington station
- Anne Pink, Witley station
- Tom Kempster, Bentley station
- Peter Keegan, Basingstoke-based guard

“Delivering the highest standards of customer service is important and it is only through our people that we can achieve this,” says South West Trains’ Managing Director Stewart Palmer. “I want to thank the many passengers who were so impressed by the service they received that they took the time to nominate and let one of our employees know just how much they are appreciated.”
